The Synthesis Gap

There is a fundamental difference between summarization and synthesis. Summarization is the compression of existing information. Synthesis is the creation of new insight by connecting disparate dots.

Current LLMs are world-class summarizers but mediocre synthesizers. They can tell you what happened, but they struggle to tell you why it matters in a way that isn't a cliché.

The winning agents of the next year will be those that can perform true, non-obvious synthesis.
